The latest venture of David Buehrer (Blacksmith and Greenway Coffee) proves to be a true hipster hotspot in an already popular area of the Houston Heights. Ever since its opening in May, this place is permanently packed. Not surprisingly, because there are so many great things to say about Morningstar. First and foremost, the tempting selection of fancy donuts. You can choose from many different flavors like the Texas Honey glazed, Cinnamon & Palm Sugar (“Cop Donut”) and Pomegranate Cream. If you’re a bit overwhelmed by all the choices, don’t hesitate to ask the friendly staff as they’re more than willing to help you find something to your taste!
But Moningstar offers more than just their delicious sweet treats. They also serve great coffee and have one of the most extensive Matcha menus in Houston. Matcha (finely milled green tea powder) is already a big hit in other cities, but it’s still relatively undiscovered here. You can choose from one of the eight different Matcha drinks and even top it off with the Uji Matcha donut if you simply can’t get enough. And just like the drinks, the food menu is a bit different from what you might expect from a coffee & donut place. They serve Asian-influenced brunch items like the Crispy Rice and Korean Steak & Eggs. It all sound very promising, so next time I’ll make sure to come with a slightly emptier stomach..
