Slurp-worthy bowls at Nao Ramen Houston
Another spot has been added to the ramen scene in Houston! There’s not shortage of places offering this warming dish in town, but I always welcome more. Certainly when besides serving delicious ramen, they also have a modern decor and a large patio. Formerly with Tarakaan, Piran Efshani and chef Rob Frias opened the new Nao Ramen in Rice Village so I went to check it out together with a couple of my fellow food bloggers.
At Nao Ramen you can choose from five different broths: Shoyu Beef, Spicy Miso, Chicken, Red Curry, and the traditional Tonkotsu. The Red Curry is one of the more unique flavors and a Nao favorite, so I decided to go with that option. Smart move as the chicken broth with red curry, coconut milk, and various toppings proved to be delicious. To customize your bowl, you can choose from 18 different toppings like the 63 degree egg, softshell crab, or toasted garlic. Besides ramen, Nao also offers Baos, Salads, and Hot Stone Rice Bowls and later on they will add Yakatori to the menu. Plus, if you’re really feeling the Japanese vibe, you can go for a Sake or a Japanese whiskey to complement your meal.
