Giant beef ribs and juicy brisket at Killen’s Barbecue in Pearland
I had heard about Killen’s Barbecue several times from my local friends, telling me that I absolutely had to drive out to Pearland to try what is believed to be one of the best barbecue spots around Houston. Some even say that this smoke shack opened by the renowned Ronnie Killen offers the best barbecue in Texas! Seeing the long line of people that had bundled up, I was clearly not the only one taking that advice. It took about an hour to get in, but they provided water and beer to make the wait more pleasant and luckily the food made it well worth it.
Once you enter the restaurant, you see a blackboard menu that lists the food and drinks they offer. As with many other barbecue spots, you do run the risk that some items are sold out if you come a little later during the day. Killen’s Barbecue is famous for their beef ribs, which are slow-smoked until the meat is soft in the middle and crunchy on the top. You can see the giant rib on my plate below! I also loved the juicy brisket and combined it with the potato salad and cream corn. For me, the meat was flavorful enough, but every table does offer a sweet, a tangy, and a coffee sauce for all the sauce lovers out there. Unfortunately I really didn’t have any room left for their homemade desserts, but I guess that just gives me an extra reason to come back soon!
